Shore 2 Shore 50K Peak Week 1

Coming off a Recovery Week things always feel pretty good! With the weather getting warmer, but a little wetter, it becomes a lot easier to get off the treadmill and get outside. My knee achiness that I have been dealing with over the past few months seems to be coming back a little bit so I going to make sure that we are good to go and not push too much too fast. Although I was to crush S2S, being healthy for UTMB is my first priority. Here is a day by day look at the week and where my head is at. 8 x 1k @ 7:30 Pace w/ 100m Recovery. 1 Mile WU/CD

First and foremost is the shoes for today. I have gotten a ton of support from Mount To Coast! They don’t pay me anything, but give me the opportunity to try, review, and give feedback on shoes that they are releasing. The T1’s will be released in early June and I am so happy to have them on my feet. My expectations of they are high because of how much I have loved all the shoes they have released. I can not give too many stats just yet, but there will be a full review when I am granted permission to speak about their details. If you are wearing M2C shoes use LINK HERE to help support the blog.

Spring is definitely in the air and it’s also been dry which is great. My muscles feel amazing coming off the rest week. but this knee is still giving me a little bit of bother. It’s not pain like it was in December and January. It’s just enough ache that I notice it. The weirder thing is it comes and goes. And it usually comes after a speed session because I truly believe it stems from my weak glutes and tight hamstrings that I am trying to deal with. This has made me pull back on speed work a little bit, but I was confident coming into this workout after having a pullback week.

It wasn’t exactly fine, but I got through the workout. It’s so hard when its not really “pain”, but I know something is just off. Tomorrow I will adjust and see how things work out.

1 Hour Zone Two
Time: 1:05:18 | rTSS: 74 | Miles 6.79 | Elevation: 354 ft | Shoes: Mount To Coast T1
Todays weather was absolutely beautiful, which distracted any knee soreness I had. It was there but I refuse to listen to it. Wednesday is my “Get out on the trail” day during the week so I headed to a local state park and ran the Nassau Greenbelt for and out and back. Nice trail through Bethpage State Park. The T1’s felt a little better than yesterday as I figure out the weird lacing system. Not as much feet as I really needed, but planing a bigger run for the weekend so want to make sure the legs can handle that run with a faster group than I normally run with.

1 Hour Zone Two on the Tread
Time: 1:00:05 | rTSS: 55 | Miles 5.69 | Elevation: 432 ft | Shoes: Mount To Coast P1
Had to move around around a rest day cause the knee needed a day yesterday. Got some good recovery in and it is feeling pretty good today. In the risk of pushing myself backwards I decided I was just going to get on the tread in the awesome P1’s, which offer amazing stability, and break a sweat on the tread so I could just hop off if things get weird.
Things were good. Happy with the run. Did a peloton class and got a solid hour in and knee felt good. Stayed on the recovery of it. Iced it and did some PT exercises to help strength it. Got in the Sauna for 20 min after the run. Aways feels hotter coming off a run with the warmer core body temp. 10 min of foam rolling on the tight hammys and I was good to go. Ready to attack the weekend.

1 Hour 20 Min Zone 2
Time: 1:21:57 | rTSS: 94 | Miles 8.66 | Elevation: 144 ft | Shoes: Mount To Coast P1
With it being my birthday today, I had grand plans of this incredible, monumental run! I had to think about what I was trying to build towards, how my body was feeling overall, and really put things into true perspective. Going out and running 43 miles would not have done me any good. It probably would have even set me back. I have to keep to the plan. Keep building safely and looking ahead to bigger goals than a birthday run. So after talking with Tara we decided that we were going to keep things are normal as possible for the day. She got up and did her long in the am and I got to sleep in. Gosh knows sleeping is is probably what I wanted most for my birthday. haha.
I still needed to get something in, and my brothers were coming over for dinner and cake after Averys soccer game. I had a nice 90 min window from the time Tara got home to when I had to get to the game, so I through on the shoes and got out the door to just run to Averys game and meet her over there with the kids. Route I picked was a little longer than expected so I had to push a little bit the last mile or two, but the weather was nice and everything felt good. It was just what I needed today leading into a bigger effort and very early wake up tomorrow!

3 Hour 15 Min Long Run
Time: 3:27:33 | rTSS: 184 | Miles 18.1 | Elevation: 2,251 ft | Shoes: Mount To Coast T1
First real test for the Mount To Coast T1’s today and they did awesome. 3:15am wake up today with a 90 min commute to the start of todays group run. Met the group out on the south for of Long Island to run the Hamlet to Hamlet foot path. It was a cold, windy morning but I was dresses properly. The trail was nice. Wasn’t great. haha. Just nice. I don’t think Ill be rushing out to do it again. It is a quieter part of long island so just doesn’t get a ton of use. Was a ton of leaves and down trees all over the place. Just very unmaintained, which made it annoying to navigate at times. We joked that we felt like we were running Barkley with all the briers and bushwhacking we were doing. Crappy trails are always made better with a good group. I tweaked the ankle early in the run which kept me toward the back of the pack. I didn’t really say much about it to the group because I didn’t want to keep thinking about it. All in all, I got through and with some ice when I got home and a rest day tomorrow I know I will be good to go. We took a little detour at the end so we could hit up a local coffee and donut shop which was dope. Got finished up and was home by noon which was good.
This week was a good week. It started shaky but Im glad I didn’t do the stupid long birthday run. Im glad the knee is feeling ok. Volume is building nicely and Im looking forward to getting up into the 50’s in the weeks to come. We are now 24 weeks out from UTMB, so although S2S is next, I can start to think about UTMB and what that training is going to be looking like moving forward. It is time to get back to 6 days of running per week and slowly adding vert plus strength to the plan.
